Carlsbad Chiropractor Helps Patients with Plantar Fasciitis Pain

plantar-fasciitis-pain-reliefYou may wonder why do we refer to heel pain as plantar fasciitis pain. Carlsbad Chiropractor Dr. Kline teaches us that the plantar fascia is the flat band of tissue (ligament) that connects your heel bone to your toes. It basically runs across the bottom of your foot and provides support to the arch of your foot. Typically when you strain your plantar fascia, it gets weak, swollen, and irritated (inflamed), thereby making your heel or the bottom of your foot hurt when you walk or just stand still.

Plantar Fasciitis Pain Treatment

heel-pain-treatmentWhen there is chronic inflammation to the plantar fascia, the pain can be unbearable. Especially if you spend most of the time on your feet. Dr. Kline will evaluate your condition but more x-rays are recommended. This will help your Chiropractor determine if the pain is caused by the platar fascia or a heel spur. Most medical professional will immediately recommend surgery to remove the heel spur. Don’t let that happen to you. It is best to get an x-ray before any surgery.

Why do I have heel pain?

The cause of this plantar fascia is not fully understood. Dr. Kline has found that it is more commonly found in females and overweight people. When both feet are involved, this is sometimes associated with a certain type of arthritis, which can be evaluated with a simple exam and tests by your Chiropractor.

How can I tell if I have plantar fasciitis pain?

foot-pain-heel-painThe pain occurs on the bottom of your heel, more towards the inside usually (“medial”). It hurts to take a step or walk. Most patients report that the pain is worst when getting out of bed in the morning. The pain usually gets better after walking around for a while. The reason the pain is worst in the morning is because the plantar fascia has had the chance to contract (shorten, tense up) while you were sleeping. The pain is often described as a sharp pain (like stepping on a pebble) or a dull aching/throbbing pain.

Plantar fasciitis is very common, but luckily your Carlsbad Chiropractor is easy to treat without surgery!
